O-Week Campaign to End Sexual Assault at WLU

Sexual assault is a problem on all university campuses, and Laurier is no exception. What a lot of people don’t know, however, is that sexual assault rates skyrocket during Orientation Week. There are dozens of potential explanations for this phenomenon, and this year, the Women’s Centre has decided to tackle the issue head-on.

The WLU Women’s has planned a comprehensive awareness campaign to address all facets of sexual assault, debunk some myths, and give first-year students some foundational knowledge about the issue - speaking with them as potential victims, perpetrators and bystanders - so that they can do their part to better understand, and ultimately stop, sexual assault.

The Women’s Centre will be open from Tuesday- Friday, 10-4 so that anybody who is curious about us can stop by, chat, and check out our space. We are also available as a resource to anybody who is assaulted during this week. You will also be able to find our volunteers walking around campus with our materials on various days through O-Week; we will be wearing green shirts with purple writing.
