Judicial Affairs Council

Wilfrid Laurier University strives to be a diverse, personal, inclusive and supportive community. It is devoted to learning, research, scholarship, creativity, professional expertise and personal development in a student-centred environment. In order to accomplish this mission, students are regarded as responsible adults.

The Judicial Affairs Council (JAC) examines the rights, freedoms and responsibilities of students within the Laurier community and acts as a primary peer judicial body to hear and adjudicate cases related to non-academic offences. In order to do this, the JAC may interpret formal and informal policy of the university, resolve disputes arising from policy disagreement; and investigate matters felt to be in the interest of students.

Committee Composition

The JAC is composed of eight Counsel Members and three Student Advisors. Student Advisors are responsible for talking with students who have been called to meet with the JAC. Council Members are responsible for making decisions and recommendations regarding any disciplinary offence. Five members are required for a voting quorum on any decision of sanction.
