Student Support Team

Purpose

The Student Support Team brings together a multi-disciplinary group of staff and faculty on campus to recognize and respond to students requiring an additional level of support.  The goal of the Student Support Team is to increase our collective awareness of the multiple intersections and indicators presented by students who may be experiencing significant distress or crisis.  By gathering information, assessing risk, determining appropriate interventions and supporting students with recommendations and referrals for additional support, we hope to mitigate the escalation of student crises.  By providing early intervention and enhanced support to students, we aim to encourage students’ personal and academic success, and to support the health, safety and security of all members of the Laurier community.

 

Team Composition

Leanne Holland Brown, Dean of Students, is the key contact person for the Student Support Team. The team is comprised of representatives from the following departments: Counseling Services, Registrar’s Office, Student Services, Residential Services, Learning Services, Athletics, Special Constable Service,

Diversity and Equity, Health Services, Accessible Learning and a Faculty representative.

 

Referrals

The Student Crisis Response Procedures handout has been created to provide the Laurier community with assistance in identifying emergency versus serious situations, as well as the appropriate referrals for distinct situations.
