Apartment-Style Residence Living - Move-In Day Information

Dormitory-Style Residence Living - Move-In Day Information

All students placed in a dormitory-style residence MUST read the Dormitory-Style Residence Move-In Day information brochure prior to moving into residence on the building-specific move-in date (either Sunday September 4, 2011 or Monday September 5, 2011).

Residence Registration

Residence registration for all first-year undergraduate students will be held on either Sunday September 4, 2011 or Monday September 5, 2011 (depending upon which building they have been assigned). Registration will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 Insurance on Your Belongings

The University DOES NOT provide insurance or assume liability for personal belongings in residence. It is advised that you check with your parent/guardian’s homeowner’s policy and/or your insurance representative to ensure that contents coverage is extended to your residence room.

PLEASE NOTE: The Student occupying a residence room/unit shall carry appropriate and adequate insurance coverage for fire and property damage in public liability insurance during the term of the residence agreement and any renewals or extensions thereof, at the Student’s own expense. Such policies shall be written on a comprehensive basis with limits of not less than $2,000,000.00 for any one occurrence. Upon request by Wilfrid Laurier University, the Student shall provide proof to Wilfrid Laurier University that such insurance is in full force and effect. The Student expressly agrees to indemnify and save Wilfrid Laurier University harmless from and against any and all claims, actions, damages, liability and expenses in connection with loss of life, personal injury and damage to property, or any of them, arising from any occurrence in or about the Residence occasioned in whole or in part by any act or omission of the Student or anyone permitted to be in or about the Student’s room/unit or the Residence by the Student.

Telephone Service

Telephone service is not provided in your residence room. Students are responsible for arranging for their own telephone service provider. It is strongly recommended that students consider using a cell phone, and students are encouraged to carefully review their phone service options once they arrive on campus to avoid any unneccessary roaming charges.

Telephone service of some kind is mandatory for all WLU residence students.

Students are expected to submit their telephone number to their Residence Life Don by Sunday September 18, 2011. 

Internet Service in Residence

Internet service is provided through Wilfrid Laurier University in the majority of the residence buildings, and the cost is included as part of your residence fees.

Mail Service in Residence

Mail is delivered daily, Monday through Friday to the residence buildings. Each mailbox is shared by 2 or more students.

It is the student’s respnsibility to ensure that all contacts have their correct residence mailing address. Mail with an incorrect or incomplete address is typically delivered to the WLU Residential Services Office for correction and re-distribution. Residential Services accepts no responsibility for delays in re-directing mail that is incorrectly addressed for students living in residence.

NOTE:  Mail will not be forwarded after April 2012 final exams. All mail will be returned to sender.

2011-2012 Residence Handbook

All students must read the 2011-2012 Residence Handbook.

The terms and conditions set out in the 2011-2012 Residence Handbook are a part of the contract between the Department of Residential Services and yourself. They are intended to explain what you can expect from living in residence and what we in turn expect from you. We hope that you will take advantage of all of the opportunities living in a residence community presents.
