Applying for Residence for 2012-2013

Residence applications for Laurier International Exchange students are available by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page. Completed applications for the 2012-2013 academic school year must be received in the Residential Services Office by 11:59 p.m. on Friday June 1, 2012.

Typically students applying for residence are required to submit a $400 residence deposit together with their residence application. Due to the difficulties involved with foreign money orders and the wiring of funds between banks, this deposit is being waived for Laurier International Exchange students. However, any exchange student who is successful in obtaining a space in residence, and who then chooses to cancel their residence application after June 30, 2012, will have a $400 charge (representing the normal residence deposit required) placed on their WLU student account.

Exchange students will be notified by email in mid June to advise them of the status of their application for residence. Applicants will be advised whether they have been successful (or not successful) in obtaining a space in residence.

All students living in residence are required to purchase a mandatory Meal Plan.  Mandatory Meal Plans are not eligible for refund, and students may not carry over money from their meal plan into the following academic year.

The Meal Plan program is currently being redesigned for the fall of 2012. This will involve a significant change to the account structure and format. Please be aware that any reference to Meal Plans that currently is found in publications or websites is related to the current year (2011-2012).

Detailed information on the Meal Plan program for the 2012-2013 academic year will be available before the deadline for residence applications (June 1, 2012) on the OneCard website

Building and room assignments are completed in July and notification is sent from WLU in mid August 2012.

Exchange students arrive at various times according to the terms of their exchange and are expected to move into residence some time after Labour Day, Monday September 3, 2012.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT RESIDENCE ACCOMMODATIONS:

Exchange students who apply for a residence space for the 2012-2013 academic school year, and who are successful in receiving a residence space for the 2012-2013 academic school year, must vacate their residence 24 hours after their last scheduled examination, and no later than April 30, 2013. Please arrange your travel plans accordingly.

NOTE:

All students who wish to live in residence must sign a Residence Hall Agreement as part of the terms and conditions of their residence application. By agreeing to the terms contained within the Residence Hall Agreement, students acknowledge that their occupancy period in residence is for the 8-month academic school year (September through April).

Exchange students who are successful in obtaining a space in residence must stay in residence for the entire period of time for which they have applied, as indicated on your residence application. For students applying for residence for the 2012-2013 academic school year, the occupancy period is September 2012 - April 2013.

Students who choose to leave residence before the end of the agreed-to occupancy period, will be held responsible for the full fees for their assigned residence room for the entire occupancy period.

Exchange students who wish to apply to live in residence are strongly advised to consider the financial implications of this decision before signing the Residence Hall Agreement and committing to live in residence. In previous years, some exchange students have been able to arrange less costly private accommodations in the community, and prefer to live there.
