Board Meal Credits

Board meal credits make up the largest portion of your on campus required Dining Plan. Only students living in a dormitory-style residence will be affected by the Board account.

Board meal credits are subject to GST and PST exemptions as set out by Revenue Canada guidelines, meaning that on-campus food purchases will not incur tax.

Board meal credits can only be used at:
  • The Fresh Food Company (Dining Hall)
Board credits may not be used at any other location or for any other non-food related service.

If there are any Board credits remaining on your OneCard at the end of the Winter Term, you will not be eligible for any refund. This account is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Flex Dollars

DORMITORY PLANS: Flex dollars make up the remaining portion of the Dormitory Style Dining Plan. In dorm plans Flex Dollars are subject to GST and PST exemptions as set out by Revenue Canada guidelines.

APARTMENT PLAN: Flex dollars make up the entire portion of the Apartment Style Dining Plan. This plan does not meet the guidelines set out by Canada Revenue agency so all purchases made with the Apartment Plan are subject to HST charges.

Flex dollars can only be used at the following on campus food outlets:
  • The Fresh Food Company
  • King Street Residence Café
  • Waterloo College Hall Residence Café
  • Wilf’s Restaurant & Bar
  • Second Cup
  • The Terrace Food Court
  • Tim Horton’s locations (on campus)
  • Starbucks (on campus)
  • Subway (on campus)
Flex dollars may not be used at any other location or for any other non-food related purchase.

If there are any Flex Dollars remaining on your OneCard at the end of the Winter Term (April 30), you will not be eligible for any refund. This account is non-refundable and non-transferable.

Value Plans

Value Plan dollars behave exactly like Flex Dining Plan dollars, in that they can be used at any on campus food location. See the list of locations under Flex dollars above.

Value Plan dollars may not be used for any non-food related purchase.

A minimum deposit of $240 on to a Value Plan is required to save the 13% tax savings for all on campus food outlet purchases.

Value Plans are available for purchase by the month, semester and year.
