Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)

Wilfrid Laurier University is committed to creating a barrier free environment for persons with disabilities; whether this is while studying, visiting or working.  As a part of this commitment, there are a variety of services, groups, committees and ongoing training devoted to promoting accessibility and equitable access to services and facilities. This website is the first point of contact for discovering the information on accessibility-related resources available at Laurier.  The University strives to improve and grow its services to be a more inclusive environment which goes beyond servicing only those persons with disabilities; please visit the Diversity & Equity Office homepage to review information on other diversity initiatives at Laurier.

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005 is new legislation that mandates how businesses and organizations, including Laurier, provide accessible services to students, employees and community members with disabilities. The goal of the AODA is for Ontario to be fully accessible by 2025. To fulfill this goal, a series of standards will be enacted and organizations will be required to meet accessibility standards as outlined in the AODA legislation Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. The standards are as follows:

·                     Customer Service

·                     Information & Communication

·                     Employment

·                     Transportation

·                     Built Environment
