Ways to get involved

We offer many opportunities for people to get involved with ABS and the positions vary in terms of commitment.

Our general member category is for students of Laurier that identify with and support the fundamental values of ABS. Under the Documents and Forms tab there is a registration form which needs to be completed and submitted in person in our office along with the $5 membership fee. This entitles you to discounted admission rates to events and socials, eligibility for recognition on the Co-Curricular record for your involvement, a year end gift, opportunities to establish meaningful connections and relationships on campus and within the community along with many more benefits. As a general member you will also gain skills for event planning, organization, leadership and delegation by participating on our subcommittees. The $5 membership fee is put towards the bursary fund. General members tend to be involved with ABS throughout the entire school year.

Another way to get involved is as a volunteer for the Beating the Odds Conference. This event will be held in February 2011. We are always seeking dedicated and ambitious individuals to contribute to the success of this event. Commitments may be year round depending on the extent to which you wish to be involved or may be concentrated to the weeks leading up to the conference. Please contact us at abs@wlu.ca for further details.

The other membership categories include:

* Community members, who are people that support and contribute to the vision and mission of ABS however are not students at Laurier. They are not required to pay membership fees and will receive differing perks.

* Advisory board is composed of ABS alumni and community partners who have demonstrated their commitment to and support of the association.
